Kitties! What a night! I was on my mom's head, beside it, by her arm, next to her waist, on her feet, back to her neck...it was cold, though the heat was thankfully on. There were multiple power outages all through the night. Thank goodness they didn't last long-- each one. Mom has a noise machine aside from me, set on white sound. If it shuts off, which it did multiple times...she wakes instantly. Ice fell and still is falling. Usually the street in front of the house is like the Indianapolis Speedway! (such a contrast from the acres...many many (miles actually) acres, woods in back of the house. Ain't no-buddy going up and down the street. Mom remembers one of the ice storms (we get plenty of those) in which those at work caught by surprise as no one knew it was coming...trying to get home up the street who gave up trying at the bottom of my hill and literally crawled up the entire block...rested a minute across from my house and then continued crawling up the street. That is the truth. Standing in front of my house, it is so steep that you cannot see to the bottom of the street where it turns two ways. And it is only a block away.
So looking out, you see maybe half an inch of snow...but the big deal turned out to be the ice storm. Mom had an essential job that required her presence 200% every day. On days like this she told me she called where she was stationed and said, but nicely, if you want me, come and get me. Most knew where she lived, that she had a Z-28, 5.1 HO which isn't going up or down icy steep hills except involuntarily. So, they came in vehicles that can do it. It was an ordeal getting from the house, down the two measles steps and across the yard to the waiting vehicle. Took quite a while for mom to get there slipping and sliding.
Mom successfully tricked me this morning. I refused her usual medicating routine. She would do it after some delicious brushies in the bathroom each day. (while I was mono-railing on the tub edge.) I said "no". Today, while I was enjoying a time of pets and smoochies on the unmade bed...she left, and came right back in, one rubber gloved hand which she hid behind her back, pre-anointed with Methemizol, and Shazam! she nailed it...straight to the inside ear flap!
Kitties and Woofies, I have to get ready to snoopervise her...she is going to clean the tub, surround, potty and sink/vanity. and floor. Oh she said she bought the Swiffer Mop for Wood Floors. Since the kitchen floor is such a hassle for her, she ordered it. Not too bad. Her own cleaning and then buffing it by skating all over it with two towels does a superb job and it glows like the sun. This...OK. Not like "homemade" however.

Just read your comments and hope the power outages are short enough to keep the house from being too cold. We have snow still coming down, shoveled with help from a neighbor with a blower once already. 10 inches then and now 8 more to come before it's over. And 14 degrees. Katie, you need that med so we are glad Mommy found a trick to get it on you. Stay safe.
I'm glad you two are okay and I hope the electric stays on. We're okay so far but a bad round 2 of ice is coming. Let Mom do the meds sweetie girl!
Ice is much worse than mere snow. I've always fancied the idea of living on a hill, but there are clearly disadvantages to it.
Katie, humans can be so sneaky! But we are happy your mom tricked you so you would get your meds. Our forecast was so wobbly, Mom figured this would be a non-event. We didn't have much snow but lots and lots of sleet and freezing rain, and it's super cold. It is just going to get colder. We suspect the same for you. Stay in a stay safe! Your Mom didn't trick you, she just found a way to give you meds that was easier! Mom knows how your Mom felt in that Z. She had 2 corvettes and then a Miata. NONE were made for snow.
Katie, I hope the power stays on now. Ice storms are the worst, so much damage is possible. Be safe, both of you!

That sounds awful. So far, we have 9 inches of snow, but I will take it over ice any day. XO
A long, long time ago, it was so icy during an ice storm that my car simply slide off the side of the road into the ditch!
Once things had melted, The Hubby who wasn't The Hubby yet, just drove it out.
Think we've had about 6" of snow today, and it's still snowing, and we are def well above the 'it's too cold to melt anytime soon' line.
So glad to see things are okay there, Katie! We never got an ice storm though it was in the predictions for awhile ... We did get lots of rain and now, the temps are starting to drop, which will no doubt freeze everything ...that could take lines down but as long as it doesn't, we'll have heat, though it's still a bit chilly inside ... Sure hope you and your Mom don't have any more outages ...
She sure was tricky with your meds! Back in 1998 we had a terrible ice storm. I'll never forget the sound of tree limbs snapping everywhere. Thankfully ice is pretty rare here, we get mostly snow.
Mom sure was stealthy with those meds, Katie. But they do make you feel better, so we are glad that worked out. As for all that ice at your place, we are purring and praying for everyone there. And that the power stays on. XO
However she gets the meds to you, it's worth it, even if you don't believe it.
I pray we all stay safe in the weather.
Thank goodness they come for your staff. Maybe they could drive a four by four up to the door to save her slipping!
Hopefully this horrid storm will pass quickly and you all can get back to safely doing your thing.

That was quite the tale of how you got to your work! I hope all that ice you just had will soon melt so you can be safe out there. Hope you won't lose power.

A man try did crawl up the hill. Standing and walking was out of the question...the ice was so bad.
Katie, sometimes moms have to be sneaky in order to do what's best for Us. Of course, that means they have to be furry smart indeed. If yours manage to outsmart YOU, she must be smart indeed!
We hope that horrid storm you wrote about is over and done. How is your house heated? Are you wholly dependent on electricity?
