Kitties! I remember telling you back several years ago something that Mom and I read and found to be the answer to a lot of problems I...and Admiral had too when she was here with mom.
Today Mom came across similar information, and she is posting it because she knows that I, Katie am not the only girl to have this happen.
Mom has mentioned many times how I hork up my breakfast (never my super though!!) many many many times. Sometimes, all she will put in my bowl is a teaspoon of food and she has to do that spaced far enough apart to keep me from getting overly full. Then, I keep my breakfast down. When she doesn't put enough space of time between spoonfuls, I hork it all up and mom may as well have thrown the can out in the trash rather than open it and try to feed me. Here it is for you all. It's so small I will make mom type it out for you:
A cat's stomach is the size of a ping pong ball. The International tennis rules specify that a ping pong ball has to be 40 mm (1.57 inches) in diameter. Experts say that the tummy can only handle 1-2 teaspoons of food at a time. Because of this, cats should eat small portions throughout the day rather than having one or two larger meals.
I recall mom finding other references to our tummies being the size of a walnut. Pretty much the same as told here in this article.
Makes mom want to be extra careful again. And I am rather luxurious in size I might add. My mancats love me that way though. 💓

I too hack up breakfast only and only occasionally. Lynn makes me
stretch my breakfast as much as possible. Not an easy feat for us
when I'm that hungry from a long night. Precious
That makes sense. I never knew that. Our pup, Scruffy, just kind of grazes his way though the day. I don't mind at all that he doesn't eat a huge meal all at one time. He is thoroughly potty trained so there is no 'rush' to go after eating. xo Diana

We have fed our 'horker' Bandido only half of the breakfast and then around 11:00 AM the other half. That goes perfect and stays all in. But while gone, you cannot ask the cat–sitter to come several times a day...
Also having to feed five kitties is tough!
Oh Katie Isabella, you are so lucky for having a man–cat as handsome as Kozmo; what a dream kitty pair.

That is very helpful information. Our Emma came to us grazing all day. She eats a few bites at a time throughout the day. The same cannot be said for Buster. That does not work for him.

That's why my momma is always telling me I can't have more food when I meow for more right after I eat I guess.
I scarf down my whole meal pretty fast - I have no idea where it goes! MOL! I actually don't get a lot of food, which is probably why I don't have any problems.

We had that trouble with some of our kitties, over the years...but when you have a piggy kitty, and a grazer, its hard to feed them...nowadays there are chip reading feeders that would have helped us solve that problem.
A ping-pong ball and a walnut are pretty small...those cans, even the three ounce ones are going to fill up a kitty belly really fast! ts good to know that now there are those smaller little 'half portioned' sizes.
Put a big plate in front of them and they don't stop eating, then it comes flying back out!
That makes total sense, KI. I also eat small meals FIVE TIMES a day. Not because of a ping-pong-ball-tummy, but more because if I get hungry, I throw up yellow slime. So Mom keeps my tummy fat and happy with 5 feedings a day. The same amount of food as if I ate once a day, but it's spread out over time. We are alike in so many ways, fren.

I guess I just know this by instinct because when my Mom gives me my breakfast I take my time eating it....a little bit now......a little bit more in 15 minutes......again......until it's gone. Each time I visit my bowl Mom comes after and adds a bit more water to the leftovers. I like soupy food but I also get my hydration. I do believe most of your mancat friends are aware that you are a pluxurious ladycat - I say that's just more of you for us to LOVE!

We hold ours down best with a few kibbles on top. Well, me (Laz) an Ayla. Marley and Lori can eat a whole cow.
My comment disappeared! When my MIL died we took on her 10 cats. She always fed them together from two big dishes so we did the same. One cat would eat like there was no tomorrow and always hork his food up afterwards. We started to feed him smaller feeds on a regular basis, and after a week or so the horking stopped.
