Why Do We Cats Do This?

 Kitties!  From reading all my furriend's blogs I am one among many who will refuse to eat.  I haunt Mom everywhere she goes, especially when she has her breakfast lunch or supper with her.  (what? Eat at a table?? As if!!!...she quit that years ago except formal meals.) I do that because I am hungry!  It does not matter that she has spent many many many green papers buying me a huge variety of wet foods to tempt me. Varying brands.  Always opening and trying yet again during the days.  {She's desperate.}

Some, I will love and eat like the starving girl I am!  (because I won't eat anything she bought even many many times when she has opened 4 cans of wet food in a day) But I will seize on a flavor and eat like gang busters! Two cans!! Then, turn up my gorgeous nose at any and all attempts to feed me that food or a lot of others.  Part of the reason I went from 15 pounds to 6.  Mom has to take me for claws, ear cleaning, and a Vitamin shot so we'll find out how much worse my weight is.  Yet....yet....I still love Mom and sleep a lot of the night with her.  She invites me, not just lets me, curl into her neck.  I still play a little, I am always in a good mood when I am awake.

Just a few days ago  Mom saw me and Leopard Meat Loafing on the bed- side by side.  She didn't have her phone so she walked quickly to get it.  Too bad for her.  I moved.  But here we are together.  Maybe you can still tell that I am his size now.

Mom wishes I would eat more but she is grateful I am eating at all.  We went thru that terrible awful time last Fall when she thought I had decided to join Admiral and Robin and Hopping John.  That horrid appetite enhancer worked but the side effects were horrendous on me, they scared Mom... as I meowed about at the time.  Mom promised me I would never ever have that forced on me again.  Turned out the Vit. B-12 is what turned the tide at the time. Not that horrible stuff she made me take.  I thank a very loving dear  friend whose Dai$y was my best FF for all time.  Without her advice, I would be with the rest of the fur family.  But I am living my best life right now-- meaning Mom makes everything convenient for my now19 yr. old little self.  And loves me so much.   (I love her, too.)  A-N-D I am still beautiful!  (and a bit vain.) (so's mom though.)

Byy for now efurrybuddy. Mom's giving out treats again.  I hope you remember me and hope for me.

Sweet Katie, some kitties are born with a finicky gene. I think you got it unfortunately. I, Precious, got stuck with the "feed me" gene and Lynn just won't give in evfurry time I demand. She sets the clock fur my meals and won't budge more. It is great thing fur Catblogosphere site 'cause Lynn only knew you were meowing today 'cause it was shown there, and not on her Blog Reading List. A few others were not shown on her list lately. I make her check fur my favorite furiends, like you and Jo Jo. Hope you got a treat you like by the time you sort this out. Precious

You are a small but beautiful girl sweet Katie. You do have a small belly that won't hold much food so you need to keep it full. Yes, B12 is a wonderful thing!

Katie you are a beautiful sweet kitty and we try to check on you every day. We just love it when we hear you have eaten! That picture of you and Leopard looks so companionable and cozy, we think it's just sweet as pie!

Katie, I know exactly what you mean. I went through that with Flynn and could literally see him shrinking before my eyes! What was the best food in the world was poison the next day. I send you lots of love and good wishes, dear girl.

You are certainly a beautiful girl. Be good to your mom and try to eat a bit better though, ok?

I wish you would eat more. The Miritaz ear gel makes you hungry, but no side effects like the pill one. XO

I hope your appetite will chirk up a bit. Sometimes I think it's hard because as you get older, you can lose some of your sense of smell, and for a cat that's a bad thing, as cats have very few taste buds and go by smell to hcoose to eat or not.

Katie, you really do need to eat...take a bite, and another and then another...I hope your eating style improves. Including your appetite!
We pups sometimes go off our food too, but then the hungry stuff happens and we start gobbling everything up again. Our Minko was down to about 6 pounds, and refused to eat anything. as in nothing at all. Vet I had at the time said a cat would not ever starve himself...but um...Minko apparently didn't know that.
I fed him three times a day with a tiny spoon, for the better part of three years and taught my next vet - (I fired the original one...), and another cat boarding place how to do it...and he actually gained a lot of weight back. He got b12 shots once a week, and I crushed a b12 tablet into his food as well, everyday. Not wanting to eat, but he sure would chew on all things wiry or cardboard, LOL! We never did find out why he stopped eating...
Hang in there, both of you!
Us pups and petcretary are pawyering for you.

Katie, we've been living your life here at Eastside Cats with Henry.
The appetite stimulant seems to have worked, but maybe it was the B12 shot.
When we see the vet next week, we'll ask if B12 shots should be a recurring item, as my research shows that it's a good thing for an FIV+ cat to have.
However, I wish I had some tips that worked for us with Henry, but I really don't know why he stopped eating then started then stopped...and maybe now started again?

I am hoping for you, Katie♥ I have loved a lot of cats in my 74 years and not eating was always an issue at different times with every cat. We worry, a lot, when you don't eat. As you know, you are loved! Not only by your Mom but by people you don't even know :) I hope the B-12 shots work their magic.

Katie, darling, we truly wish you would eat more, but we understand. Our mom has gone through this with several senior kitties. Sometimes, it is because we lose our sense of smell as we get older. Nineteen is an incredible age to be, and we know you got there because of the wonderful care you get from your mom. We send lots of purrs, prayers and POTP to you. Please do eat more! It's wonderful that you're still going at 19, Katie. Maybe not as strong as we'd all like you to be, but who is these days? Keep on truckin', as they said in my youth, Katie.

Katie, just like older people, older cats don’t seem to want to eat as much as they used to. You just keep eating as much as you can and make your mom happy.

Katie, we are always thinking of you and Mom with love. We're so glad you still play and want lovins from her. Just keep eating whenever you can, okay?

Has your Mom tried the various soups and smoothies available for cats these days? Our Queen Tama used to love them, as well as yogurt for cats.

Hi Sweetheart, I can be a picky eater too! It’s very frustrating for our moms! Sometimes the only thing I’ll eat is boiled chicken, & Mom says she’ll do whatever it takes! Please eat as much as you can! I think you & you mom lie about your age, because you both look mah-velous❣️ Lover Boy Kat
