A V-E-T visit

Kitties, I only got my extremely long claws cut yesterday.  But mom is thankful that when I put my paw on her face in the night, she doesn't have to worry about scratches.

I was just getting used to the far better Clinic who treated me like the Queen I am, until the virus came and they don't allow the pet parents inside any longer.  I need my mom with me to help me be calmer.  I even overcame the gabapentin in my anxiety Mar. 31 when I was there for my senior workup.  Never got it.  Just shots and claws done under duress.

Mom here:  I cannot understand how the shot of gabapentin the Vet gave her when she got there March 31 could have been "over-ridden" by Katie's anxiety.  But the Vet who spoke to me on the phone when I was called to come back for her after 3 hrs. said she was beside herself.   When I gave her the one and only 5 mg. capsule I was allowed to by her- before she wouldn't take it again......she was docile and just fine.  How can it be otherwise with a shot from the Vet?

So I am waiting to make another appointment for her exam so she can have her dental she needs; until they allow the pet parents back in...doesn't look any time soon, and to have her exam and workup with me alongside during the sedation process.

She had been progressing great with the new fear free Clinic I chose.  Now, all bets are off since she is back to as she was in the old place.

Just talking and meowing here.  Thanks for listening.

Oh poor Katie! We sure wish you could relax a little but we understand you had a horrible experience before.

Katie, I understand how feardul you are when your security, your Mom, is not allowed to be with you. Purring that in another month, the clinic will either make an exception, or the rules will have changed. You are safe, dear girl. Do not fear.

Vet visits with a cat like Katie are stressful in normal times. Right now, with pandemic restrictions, they are nearly impossible!

Typically you need to give the gabapentin 2-3 hours before the vet visit. If the vet just gave her the shot when she was there, it probably hadn’t taken affect yet.

I think it is awful that they don't let pet parents in most places now. I am so thankful the place I go is still letting us in. XO

Vets can be so confusing. I know your mom will make the right decision for you.

I’m sorry, Katie san, that you have to go through such a stressful time. Our vet isn’t letting parents inside, either, due to pandemic. I hope sometime soon your mom will be able to go inside with you and be with you. xo

Poor Katie!
Humans don't like to go to the vet's office either, just so you know...

I am NOT an expert opinion by any means - I watch a lot of the vet shows on Animal Planet and Nat Geo Wild and they mention - not often, but enough to show it is not rare - that sometimes the animals get agitated instead of relaxing. Sometimes it is the effect of a particular drug, sometimes just because the animal is already stressed and fighting the effects, so probably the more agitated Katie is to begin with, the more she fights. Our vets (in NE Ohio) are now allowing us in with the animal, so hopefully you will be able to go with her again soon. We are sending purrayers and POTP for both you and Katie and the vet staff.

Aww, this makes us so sad. We have COVID-19 protocols in place at our vet, too. We felt so bad when we had to take Ava there last week. She was so scared. :(

Is there no way you can go in with a mask and gown on, or have, at least, an exam or claw-cutting done outside? I could not have let Raleigh and Cammie go if I couldn't have been with them.
