Oh Noes...Monday? Really? (Mommy got HER 2 cents in too. Sorries)

Kidding.  Every day is a weekend to me.  But not to mom.  I just watch her whirl about and do lots of things and work and I just lie there resting so as to be heartbreakingly bewteefuls for her at all times.  That's a lot o' work.

A mean old coal company that owns a mountain where my  mom's ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) HAM club is having its repeater  threatened.  It was a gentleman's agreement 45 years ago that the club could erect its antenna and repeater up there.  They are threatening demolishing our equipment if we don't pay up. They said that mom's club must  suddenly start to pay high  rent.

HAMS are a public service right along side of it being for serious hobbyists.  (takes work to be a HAM and a pretty good test).  They threatened to tear down the antenna and the little building where the repeater is housed if we don't come across with money even though they too are benefited by our equipment as they are allowed to use it, as are emergency responders.  Hospital and Emergency  nets use it too.  Kitties and parents will be glad of the HAMS taking over vital communications when cell phone coverage is gone or a tornado or earthquake happens.  HAMS are the only communication in a region sometimes Mommy said.  Sorries I got up on the sofa top which is my soap box.  Any of you all a HAM too?  Not in silliness, but in radio?

Lastly, it's raining cats and dogs as you can see from the v-e-t's wall hanging in my exam room last week. Biggafy for the best view.  Mommy and I loved it.

  4. We're sorry about the HAMS. We don't have many where we live but we know some people are very serious about it here as well.

  5. We're with Brian. This is important and we hope your mommy's group will be ok. The coal company sounds so mean. :(

    That is a great picture!

  8. It makes us sad that the HAMS are having problems with those selfish people at that coal company. HAMS are awesome, and they really do take care of so much in times of crisis. We're sending purrs and prayers that things work out, somehow.

    Love to you and Mommy!

  9. That's terrible that those humans are trying to charge your human's HAM club! Terrible and not fair. HAM humans are very important when there's an emergency and it seems like there are fewer and fewer of them around.

  12. We are not HAMS, but it sounds like fun, if those meanies don't ruin it all. They are like villains in a storybook.

  13. Humans can be much more selfish than cats. We hope they can come to a compromise for the HAMS.

  14. HAM radio operators do a BIG service especially in rural areas where communication is sometimes a problem. Not only that, but it seems to me it's a lot of FUN to have friends all over the world on the radio - working together to provide a service AND just enjoy friendship. Hope the coal company "sees the light" !

    Hugs, Sammy

  18. We sure hope all of that gets worked out. Sounds like an important service to have. Maybe they will come to their senses.

  19. We know how to ham it up, but we're not that kind of ham. We like the taste of another kind of ham, though!

Good luck to your mom and her club. Those kinds of agreements don't seem to hold water in this day and age, unfortunately. Not in our take-take-take culture.

  22. Well, that is just not right! Mom knows two people who use HAM radios.

  23. It sounds like that coal company is a bunch of shortsighted greedhogs*. I hope the HAM people can prevail.

    * I like what Seville said.

  24. That is terrible, Katie. HAMS are very very important and the coal company shouldn't be so stupid and greedy. If they won't back down, what about a GoFundMe page?

  25. The coal company is being a butt! We hope the best for your mom and her HAMS!

  26. "Gentleman's agreement" is the key there. At some point in time, an a__hole comes along. He (more than likely) gets greedy or wants the site for something else :(

  27. I'm sorry to hear about the mean coal company threatening the club. I hope things get worked out in good way.
The raining dogs and cats picture is very cute. Have a great new week!

  28. Why, it is just (another Human) outrage is what that is! As if your Mommy's antenna & little shed are hurting the Big Greedy Coal Company in any way! Phhffft. Sooooooo incredibly stoopy and short-sighted. We kitties would NEVER go back on our pawshake.

  29. There are no "gentlemen" anymore! What does it hurt to have HAM operations on your big old mountain? Especially when you get to use it? Is there any kind of public service exemption the club could file for? In the meantime, we at the CatRulers household think that all these executives deserve for Christmas is a lump of their own coal!

pee ess: you are furry beautiful every day, sisfur Katie!

  31. We've thought some more about this impending wrong. Can you contact your US Representative or Senator to help? What about an online petition as well? change.org is one place to look at. We guess those coal folks just want to blow the top off that mountain anyway, which makes us sad.

Hey, we bet Al Gore would help! :-)

  32. Some people are just out to make a buck, maybe your mum should by a ham and throw it at these money crapping people although she should freeze it first as it would hurt more if it was frozen

  33. My now deceased brother-in-;aw was a HAM operator so I know about it.My hubby used to go with him to Mt. Equinox in VT when there was some antique car race up the mountain and they used HAM for that. I hope things can work out, that would be needed in dire circumstances.

  34. HAM operators are very vital! We hope that antenna situation works out to the local HAMS benefits.

  35. Our dad used ta be when he was a kid. As pilots both our humans had their 3rd class radiotelephone license, then they did away with that about 10 years ago and bundled all the requirements up into the private pilot's license so they let theirs lapse.
But you're right - it is a service - especially during disasters & such!
We kitties just say yeah yeah yeah gimme TOYS n TREATS n NOMS (aren't humans silly like that?) MOL!!
