My V-E-T Visit

Kitties, I needed my nails to be  trimmed.  They were getting like swords so off I went.  And while there after 7 months of nothing, Mom asked if I could have some help with my allergies.  Remember, I changed v-e-t-s.  So the nice lady gave me a shot of something I had not had before and kitties, my reaction to it scared mom.

I went straight into my PTU when I got home and had a bite to eat and I stayed in there from 2 in that afternoon, even overnight.  My mom was so worried without me to sleep with to guard her that she rose at 0355.   She pretended that was get up time, and brought my breakfast to me right there to the PTU.  She called the v-e-t at 8 am and got a return call several hours later and told her what I was not doing, which was not living my life.

No patrolling, not hardly any foods,  staying in the PTU and mom was asked questions and answered to the Dr.'s satisfaction and was told that I was not going to keel over after all.

Sure enough, I came out and acted fairly normal from that afternoon on, and I did get into bed with mom for the night last night.  So now she has stopped worrying so much.

I am not itching now but I think we will try the "step process" from now on.  An additive to my fuds of a fatty acid, and hope I eat it and that it helps. And then, foods for an allergic kitty..and so on.  We do NOT want the steroid shots due to the bad reactions they have over a period of time.

So, mom feels happier now and so do I.

  3. I'm glad you are feeling better, Katie! It always seems like shots make us feel worse before they make us feel better - what a relief that it was just temporary.

  4. Katie, we're sorry you had to go to the v-e-t and that you had a reaction to the injection.

It's never a good idea to get any long-lasting medication via injection, as you obviously know from personal experience, because once it's in the body there's nothing one can do if things go awry.

Our human's not impressed with *any* vet, frankly, but at least the one we currently have wasn't keen on giving Nicki the Pred by injection for just that reason.

Good luck with adding omega-3 or whatever it will be.

Of course, it's possible you have an allergy to corn, wheat or soy if your diet has those ingredients--they're very common allergens in cats. But it also could be any food--chicken, etc., or something else entirely. Very difficult to sort out.

Purrs to you and to your mom too!

  14. Oh that was a bad reaction! But we are glad you're better. You should have heard our horrified breaths reading abt your reaction to the steroid. We agree that you should do this slowly with as little steroids as you can. Is it omega 3?

  15. Katie, first you bolt out the door and now this? Our mommy can't handle any more scares so we're glad you're doing better and hope the new processes help with your itchies!

  16. Glad you are feeling better again Katie. I react like that to almost all shots too. Our vet likes to give injections in the scruff but when mum used to work for a vet, she used to give the injections behind the shoulder. She asked our vet to do them there and I don't react as bad now.

  22. I'm glad you're okay, Katie. I've had that shot when my allergies get really bad and it always makes me feel a little off at first. That's why the mom won't let me have it unless my allergies are really bad.

  27. We can imagine how worried your Mom was, Miss katie. We remember when Genji had a reaction to a shot and went all quiet. Very disconcerting. We're so glad you're feeling more like yourself now.

  30. Oh Katie, that was scary! Yikes! Add that fright to the fright of you getting out and you're on your way to giving your mom a heart attack! No more please??
Star does pretty good with coconut oil to keep her itchies down, they don't get it all with it's really really bad, but boy does it help for most of it. Best of all, she loves it and thinks it's a treat!

  31. That would have scared our mom, if it happened to one of us. Katie, I guess you will have to be careful about shots in the future since you have had a reaction to a couple of them. Our grandma was like that too. We are glad you are doing better now.

  32. Glad you are feeling better. You gave your mom a scare.

  36. We were sure happy to see that you came out of your PTU and are back to yourself sweet Katie, we were getting worried as we were reading the post. Stay well sweetie. Hugs and nose kisses

  37. Oh no, that was really scary Katie. We are hoping you are completely back to normal (normal for us cats) by now.

Mama questions anything the vet wants to give us (even though she works with the vet at spay/neuter events). Each of us has already used up one of our nine lives and Mama wants us to save the rest.

We are so glad you are feeling a bit better now, though, Katie.
perhaps you'd like to jump in your Tunnel and come over for a visit. The change of air may do you good. The weather here is lovely - spring is well and truly here and tomorrow is going to be like summer. We could have a picnic. Would you like that?

  44. Darling girl, I read on Facebook you are a little under the weather. I am sorries you are still having allergies, sweetheart. I hope that your sneezies go away very soon. I will come over and bring you some Kleenexes. My Human uses a ridiculous amount of Kleenex--she buys it 30 boxes at a time from Costco, MOL. And it's just her and me here! (though she does take a bunch of it to school) XOXOXO

  46. Hi Darling, SO I hear you are feeling a little droopy? I hope you start perking up ASAP so your poor Mommy won't be so worried about you. My Human is the same way--if I feel a little off for a day or two she has the stabby place on speed dial and I see her following me around the house like some kind of perv, you know? So really, it's best to get better and start eating better and playing and stuff. Okay? Shall I come over?
