Helping Kitties

I was amazed and glad that I could learn via FB that our local shelter needed kitten food.  Mom went out immediately and spent a bunch green papers for kitten canned food and some kitten milk to help dilute it so the babies just weaned could lap it up easier.  It was a privilege, not a duty.  Mom said she had a chance to play with two kitties who were in the lobby.  One was a teenaged boy cat who was out, and he was playing with a wand toy on the floor all by himself.  Mom felt bad so she took it up and played with him.  Mom said he could leap as high up as her shoulder.  But then, mom is just 5'1" inch tall.  There was a ginger boy who looked a bit portly, and his purr was a TRILL!  Like music.  Mom said she could only pet as much as her little fingers could stretch into those cage bar squares.

Mom is headed to Charlotte for Mother's Day.  How am I supposed to celebrate the day if she isn't here I ask?

Some of you know I got out yesterday afternoon.  Mom panicked.  She was sweeping oak pollen etc off the deck.  Our deck is high up off the ground with a railing and no steps.  She opened the door to come IN and I trotted straight out.  Mom had picked the house phone she had been talking on to take it back in and when I got out, she dropped it to the floor and did all the wrong things.  She shouted NO.  I scurried to the railing and something made mom open the deck door again.  I was looking over my shoulder and when she did, I ran into the house!

It would have been about impossible to find me if I had jumped the 7 feet to so down in a panic and ran into the woods.  We are backed onto a forest.  Here is what I would have run into.

Taken at different seasons of the year.

  1. Ms Katie it's a gd thing you ran back into your house. Your mom must have had a great fright. So did we all reading the story here. But we must say the forest is pretty but maybe not so safe for kitties.

  3. Stay inside, Katie! It's a jungle out there (from the photos, literally as well as figuratively)! That was very kind of your Mom to go to the shelter. We don't go to shelters because it would make us too sad to leave without a kitty, and we do not have room for another kitty. We (mainly me) do contribute.

  4. Oh Katie, You really gave mom and all of us a scare yesterday when you pulled that trick. Fortunately it had a happy ending, but we hope you will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER try going outside again - EVER! We don't what anything to happen to you either sweetie.

  10. Katie, you almost give ME a heart attack running out like that, I can't imagine how your mommy felt! Please don't do it again!! Star accidentally got out once, and was so freaked out that she shoved her way back in through the door almost before I could open it! Scared me to death let me tell ya! Trust me, there's nothing out there you'd like, all the good stuff is IN the house!

  12. Katie you are a smart little girl you knew it was safer to run back into the house and we are so glad you did. Having Clementine missing is hard enough we would hate to think of you lost in the woods.

  15. I am so glad you ran back in the house, Katie! We have wandered out a couple of times and oddly, my normally-neurotic human was cool as nails about it and just ordered us back in - and we obeyed!

  17. We are so glad you ran back into the house. Before we had our deck screened in and the catio made, some of us had jumped off. Luckily we don't live in a wooded area, but we can still give the pawrents a run for their money when we escape. You live in a beautiful locale. 22. Oh my cats, you gave us a fright too Katie. We are glad you ran back into the house. Those woods are gorgeous but no place for a sweet girl like you.

A big thank you to your Mom for taking food and kitten milk to the shelter. The kitties will definitely appreciate it. And we are glad spent some time playing with the two cats while she was there.

Our Mama spends a lot of time at our shelter and she knows food and time spent are much appreciated.

  33. Oh Katie, my heart did flip flops at the thought of you lost in those woods. Poor Mom would have been frantic. Promise you will never do that again. So happy you went back inside.

  34. Chloe Jo went through a phase of trying to go outside. We have coyotes and foxes, eagles, hawks and owls. We are on a lake, channel and woods. It is my greatest fear that one gets out and never makes it back home. I do have everyone micro-chipped but other critters don't care about that! Yikes!

  35. Oh how scared your mum must had been when you ran out.
