Wondering Wednesday

I am wondering if Mom can bring herself to nudge me off the bed or at the least nudge me over.  Now if I am spooned into her chest, all bets are off.  That is too sweet for words, but anywhere else, she is trying to steel herself I can tell.  When she hears the thump of me jumping down she spreads out like melting butter in a frying pan or something and wallows around reveling in the room!  The nerve! She sleeps well instead of the naps in between trying to turn over when I am close by I heard her tell someone today.

Time will tell us.  Bed is calling us.  I am waiting even now.  I know she's sleepy.

Oh, mom read in Cat Fancy this evening that our FUDs should only contain about 15% carbs, tops.  I went to a link and found all the leading fuds are waaaaaay over that amount.  And there was a good explanation as to why fruits and veggies are not for us and WHY they aren't.

It's a commercial site but mom & I don't care.  It has the analysis of the bagged foods and that is what we were looking for.

http://www.youngagainpetfood.com/page.asp?c=977

I have no idea where or if I could find this food to try.  My mom doesn't either but again, the analysis was good to read.  Naturally some moms and dads might defend their choices and who am *I* to say "change".  So, don't lay biteys on me.  I'm just sharing a link. MOL.  No dart throwing and no hisses please.  If you do, I'll not share any more if it will offend my kitty furriends.

  1. Our mom is trying to feed us healthier foods, but they do cost a little more green papers.

  2. Our mom switched us from Science Diet to Halo's Spot's Stew, which we LOVE, because of the by products. We'll have to check the carbs. Thanks for the metaphors and nutritional info! Did you see all the sweet comments about Admiral at our blog?

  3. Yeah, us kitties don't need lots of carbs. Our mom is trying to get us to eat less dry foods but we love our crunchies!

  4. Our Mom thinks we eat too many crunchies too. She gives us a "treat" of stinky goodness every night.

  5. Wes gets tuna every night and crunchies and then every morning we gets stinky goodness with warm water.
Wes only eats about half of both (the tuna and the small cans of stinky goodness). We is also both healthy as horses

  7. Darling! How could anyone get hissy with you!??

My Human used to feed me anything I showed the least interest in eating...lately, since I have become a better eater, she has tried to buy higher quality (i.e., lower carb) foodz and sometimes I will eat them but I really do prefer my FF or Whiskas, which are both fairly high-carb. She worries, but usually decides in favor of what she knows I will eat. She used to worry SOOO much because I would literally go for a day or two on just a couple bites sometimes. Since my YouKnowWhat, that's totally changed, but she still obsesses a little. Although she knows it's not the best, she figures that she's raised quite a few kitties on plain old Friskies that lived to be 16-17-18, even 19. She figures she does the best she can, and maybe when I have reliably been eating well for another few months, she'll look into this a little more.

Whew. What a lot of silly chattering. Can I come over and play later?

  9. The girl has been changing up my food too.
I'm getting 1/2 kibble (the new spay/neutered formula from Royal Canin) and then the other half is a high protein, uber low carb wet food from Tiki. So far, so good!

I'm going to do a Chewy review soon on the Tiki. ; )

  10. Our Mom is trying to get us to eat healthier, too. We get Now Senior Weight Control dry food and Fancy Feast Classic. When I moved in Herman and Spyro were eating Tiki and Merrick, but they gave me the runs. I can only eat pate style. Mom brought home a can of Evo 95% meat, and we ate it the first time, but turned up our noses at the leftovers. Mom says thank you so much for the kind words about Herman. I am sure that Herman and Admiral will become great friends.

  11. We totally appreciate the link! Rumblemum tries to give us the healthiest food that we'll eat, and it's great to have resources to look at that'll help educate her.

  12. My human reads labels on both human AND cat food! She feeds us canned food 95% of the time (I get the occasional high-protein dry food), and she always does the math regarding protein vs. carbs. We wind up with mostly high protein, grain free stuff - Wellness Core, Blue Buffalo Wilderness and occasionally Evo (which isn't available at the chain pet stores). We are all happy, lively kitties even though we are between 10 and 12 years old, and our fur feels awesome, so she figures she must be doing good by us.

  13. There's probably no clear cut right or wrong food to feed our furchildren. And one brand of food can have very different results with different kitties. :)

Boomie here : Mommy's making SARDINES tonight. Shall I bring some over? xoxo

  17. We are quite picky eaters and we rarely eat the same as each other. We can often hear Mum muttering aboutbeing a waitress!!

  23. Hi Katie san, thank you for the link! This has great information! I've found some say some fruit is good for kitties and some say no. It is hard for me to decide what is really good. But I wouldn't choose Young Again because I don't like chicken meal as 1st ingredient. This is just my opinion and I hope no kitty will hiss at me, either :-)

  24. Aww sweetie - that picture of you is just precious - just like you. M says thank you for the link. She found that site very interesting and is now wondering where to buy the food. Guess she'd better shop the internet. Then, even if she finds it, there is no guarantee I'll like the stuff. I have very refined tastes!

  26. What Spitty's Mom said is totally so true. I have been feeding kitties now for a very long time and most of them have lived to their high teen age years on just plain old Whiskas and the dry food. I do think that some the grain free food would be good for some of the kitties that live here such as some of the ones that get diarrhea all the time. But most of them are just dandy on good ole Fancy Feast etc. But that is a great site to look at for info. Well done.

  27. Yes, I think lower carb is better since we are carnivores. The lady gives me a mix of high-end kibble. Like, three our four $$$ (like she can afford it [not]) brands all mixed up in a container. I get a wet canned food treat at 4 in the afternoon. Usually a couple tablespoons of Fancy Feast Classic. I don't like the high-end wet food for some reason.

  28. We eat Innova Evo dry and wet and like it very much. The foster cats eat California Natural dry and Fancy Feast wet. We have tried to give them the Evo or other healthier brands but FF is what they like and they love California Natural dry which is a good quality food. Some times with older cats , it's peace of mind when they are simply eating!

We love being informed about things and would never hiss at you dear Katie!

  29. Hello pretty Katie! It is so nice of you to share your bed with Mom!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for sharing the info. The kind of food Mommie is feeding us is not *perfect*, but with Sassy's sensitive stomach it is what the vet recommends.

  31. We love that you share the bed with your mommy, Miss Katie! And we appreciate this good info that you shared with us!

  32. Hi Katie, I'll check out the link when I get home. I totally agree about not feeding foods with fruits and veggies. Years ago, our cat-only vet begged me not to feed Wellness because she said she's had to remove stones from kitties who ate that due to the cranberries. It seems that a lot of the "high quality" foods put things in the food like blueberries and spinach. I never talk about this because I know a lot of people feed these foods and I don't want to offend anyone or, like you, get hisses. I think we all do our best with what we have financially and what we think is best for our furry ones. I'm sure our food isn't considered the best but I feel pretty good about it. Thanks for sharing!

  33. Miss Katie, you have a really nice place to live! Your mom really loves you!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love it when you share helpful links, Katie! :) I will research myself for our four kitties. Two of our lovies have had hyperthyroid and had the radio-isotope procedure done, and they have to have special food prescribed by their V-E-T that's good for their kidneys. But no, lots of carbs aren't healthy for cats just as they aren't for us humans! Thanks for sharing the link!

  35. Nicky used to lay next to or on top of TW's leg every night. She's surprised she still has circulation in that leg since he was 22 lbs.

  36. Have you ever heard of Hound & Gatos brand? We just saw it in the pet store the other dy and were intrigued - it's 98% protein, no grain, no veggies or fruits. And it's - very important - human grade. (Did you read our article on the bad quality of ingredients in pet food and salmonella, etc? *shudder*)

We think we may be cheking that out. We prefer wet because we need the liquid.
