Wordy Wednesday

Mom is beginning to wonder if I am indeed a deepest darkest deep deep shade of brown and white  instead of black and white?  I look black unless I am in light.  Then there is the unmistakable all over deepest next- to- black-color of brown to my furs.  Mom has insisted that is the color of my underwears but now even she is beginning to wonder.  But right now here in light from the house I look soft black. Don't know the answer to the mystery.

Mom came in from sweeping the oak leaves off of the deck yesterday and said there was evidence that raccoons are back again.  Remember the screaming session I had at them midnight on night a few months ago?  We had to get a trapper in to relocate them and we had a bumper crop of raccoons and possums?  Well this time, there is no hummingbird feeder for them to destroy or mess with and no huge tomato plant to eat and destroy so maybe after this scouting trip they will leave us alone and mom won't have to hear me get my pantaloons in a wad again.

I'm making my way around to your homes..

  4. Hannah has a brown tinge to her black furs too Mum wonders if it was the sun this summer that made them go like that. She says if the furs return to all black through the winter and then change again next summer she will know fur sure!
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx

  6. You're gorgeous no matter what shades of fur, Katie.

As for racccoons, they're opportunistic, of course, and so we think you always might have them around, if there's anything to tempt them. :-)

  8. Whatever color(s) you are, your beauteousness is wonderful to behold!

I agree with fuzzy tales. Especially if there is running water somewhere in the area, they will always be around.

  9. I think those brown colours are what peeps call highlights. They pay a fortune to get them done at hair salons. You're lucky! You got the beauty, naturally! purrs

  12. Our mum used to have 3 littermate brothers who came before us. Two were black and one was a tuxie but only one was true black in summer and winter. One black and the tuxie looked a very dark brown in the summer sunshine. The other one had a bluish black sheen to his coat all year round.

  13. We think you look pretty darn black Katie, but we don't see you in different lights. We still think you are terrific, no matter which color you are.

  15. You're a vision of loveliness, Miss Katie (brown or black)! We truly hopes you don't haf raccoon infestation again. Paws crossed.

  16. Well we think you're set either way - Allie sez brown is the new black this season - and since black is always in style...you're COVERED!

  17. I do see the brown in your furs. Could it be due to the sunlight .. kind of a for the moment lightener ?

Big Al, my black cat, looks that way sometimes but he is for sure all black with a few white furs here and there.

We get a few of those masked bandits but no one gets in our yard .. that we've noticed. We live in the woods so there's a lot for them to do. Our place is boring to them I guess.

  18. Katie, if you remember, Ryker's Boy had a post about where cats get their coloring and it said that the sun can bleach a black cat's fur. Maybe that's what's happened to you.

  19. Two of the pets before us were black until the sun hit their furs and they turned into redheads. Even jaguars gets spots in the sun. We hope the raccoons leave you alone!

  20. Katie, there is no mystery! You is just bootiful :)

We hope the raccoons keep their distance since they can be such an unruly lot!!

  21. A lot of black kitties have a brown cast in the sun, so I wouldn't give it too much thought, Katie!

I hope those raccoons go away and stay away. They are cute, but they are trouble!

  22. Miss Katie, we think you're BEAUTIFUL, no matter which colors you are. :)

    Hugs to you and mommy!

  23. I think it's very common for black kitties to have a dark brown undertone to their furs. The light can change any kitties' colour.

It looks so plush and shiny, your coat!

Raccoons are so cute! Too bad they're such pests.

  25. Well, Miss Katie, we are wondering if you might be part horse... You see, it can be hard to tell sometimes if a horse is very dark brown or black, and some horses are black in the winter and then go brown in the summer!

    Purrs,
    The Chans

  26. Katie san you look shiny in the sun! Sometimes I find my boys in a little brown color as well. Kitty coat gets brown in the sun, maybe?
I hope racoon will leave and doesn't bother you. We had racoon coming on the deck one time. My husband scared the racoon and it hasn't come back so far.

  27. Katie darling, you are black and white, you fade in the sun like all black cats. Star is grey, well, blue to be technical, even though she gets some under colors when she spends so much time in the sun.
This winter when the sun isn't so strong, you might darken back up, but next summer, fade again, MOL
Oh boy, racoons! I hope they leave you alone!

  28. Katie you are gorgeous!! Dark
black with a hint of dark choclate when you're in the sun! And your belly is so adorable mom wants to give hugs! purrs xx

  30. I read that when black cats turn brown in the sun it is called "rusting"!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Right on, Katie. Maybe they'll get bored and try to find 'greener pastures'. Try not to get your knickers in a twist if they decide to hang around though. :) But it IS fun to yell at the outside animals sometimes, isn't it? Our kitties do it too!

  32. I am black and silver...... but I am having some red highlights appearing of late. Maybe it's in the water.

  33. Katie, sometimes in the sunlight I look brown, too, but it's just an illusion, I'm sure. My black is black and yours is too.

Here's to no raccoons and no possums!

  34. Me also have some brown fur under the sun~ But Michico thinks because I have ages~~ So~
    I don't know~

  35. Color can change as cats age. Our dark gray Gris Gris is much browner now. Hope the raccoons stay where they're relocated.

  36. Katie, I'm a black kitty...and sometimes when I'm laying in the sun, my furs have a bit of a brown tone too. I think that's kinda normal.

  37. Ooo, highlights! Natural ones too! We don't understand our raccoons but sure am glad they don't cause trouble at our house! No wadded pantaloonies here! Purrs...

  39. The Human doesn't think I am truly black either. I usually look black at a glance, but a lot of times if the Human STARES at me (and sadly she does--she needs a life, ha ha meow!) I start to look dark brown and reddish. It's sometimes more obvious in bright light (or with the flash which she does not like to use) but she can always kinda see it if she tries.

Well, she is watching the game and biting her nails even though the Giants are ahead....for now. Even though it's 8 - 1 in the 7th, she always watches and imagines how they could screw up and still lose the game. She really is sick and twisted!!

XOXOXO darling--come over later? We'll EAT!

  40. Carl is the same color, but we really do believe he is black as the brown only shows in the sun. He couldn't get any blacker than he is, we think. Either way you are both handsome kitties. That's one mischievous visitor you have.

  41. It's the same with me, Katie! If I'm in bright light or sunlight you can REALLY see the brown in my black furs. MomKatt says I'm her "minky kitty" - I have never seen a mink before but she says they are beautiful and can be a brown-black in color. So it means that we're beautiful, my sister - but we already knew THAT, right?

    PURRS!

  45. My sister's kitty, Gracie, whom we all thought was black when she was a kitten, now seems to be a very dark shade of brown. Not sure if she got lighter or whether we just couldn't see her true colour before.
But Katie Isabella is beautiful, whatever you call her colour:-)

Thank you for posting the lovely memorial graphic which Ann from Zoolatry made of my sweet Possum.

  47. Hello, Sweet Darling! Did you see my Giants winned again!!! Yay! The Human did not get to see much of the game though as she was at work till almost 8 oklok tonight. Sigh. So it looks like I might be getting some treats from Detroit after all! (Oops-I shouldna said that! Cause if the Big G's lose, I'll have to send Cody and his whole family some San Francisco treats--actually, that might be fun.)

Hope you had a lubblee day, XOXOXO
