Tuesday Tuxie

Happy May Day Kitties and Woofies. Here is a flower for you.

Kitties..mom and I can't seem to win.  We changed to the hairball formula but when mom noticed that I was only eating maybe half of my breakfast and supper, she knew what was coming.  Yup.  I have horked up three or so hairballs a day for three day.  Magic number 3 I guess.  She was gone all day yesterday and had some well formed sausage sized hairballs waiting when she got home.  She told me she wasn't surprised due to my not eating much yesterday morning.  Showed her my tummy was upset. She said she's getting a Furminator very soon now.

By the way, to reiterate, we have carpeting all over the house except the kitchen and bathroom.  So mom can't really place things where I scratch because I scratch any and everywhere I please.  I thought I'd mention again that I have 4 scratch pads, two scratching posts, (one carpeted post and one rope post) plus a hanging scratch pad off the  door knob.  I don't like the rope post at all, just the carpet one. I use my Ess for scratching too and my scratch mat, my boxes and my large donut shaped rolly ball thingy with the scratch pad center. Nothing works to keep me from clawing the carpet as well unless mom sees me and sprays me.
Naughty is my name..clawing is my game.

Mom and I hear the Meow Mix song in there in the living room.  "Meow meow meow meow, meow meow meow meow..."  Mom will he singing that under her breath all day.  Heeee.  MOL

Oh and I sort of punished mom for being gone yesterday.  I just laid forlornly on the carpet near her and
refused to get on her lap.  Showed HER! I kept that up till we went to bed. Go off and leave ME, will you!

  1. Katie, we are very sorry the hairballs upset your tummy so. But you know it is best to get them out of there. We hope the furminator works some magic - Mom would love to use a fulminator on Simba, but he refuses to allow any brushes except down the middle of his spine.

Mom is irritated that this new blogger has auto correct on the spelling in commits. She sees it tried to change the spelling of furminator to fulminator. She has to force it back!

  2. See, it did another one. Mom KNOWS she did not type commits! She typed COMMENTS!

  10. Poor Katie! We are so sorry you are having a hard time with those evil and vishus hairballs. With all that long hair it's not surprising. Hope you feel better soon.

  16. WE hope you get all the furballs up soon! Is the excitement of your (still somewhat) new home and the upcoming arrival of the Princess contributing to an upset tummy as well?

  17. Katie, we are so sorry about the hairballs. Has mom tried letting you lick a little butter?? That works for some of the ones here. Our Tortie Missy will not lick the butter. She has horrible hairballs too. We sure wish there was some solution to your problem.
Take care and have a great day.

  18. I have several boxes around the house for Meredith Ann (your scratching everything twin) to use. She still thinks the kitchen cabinets are the best though. I even have aluminum foil taped up on my walls .. yes, it's a lovely site my old house is.

I don't know what to tell you about the long furs. Mere seems to be doing semi ok lately. One deposit on her blanket two days ago. Nothing since.

I won't tell her that your having a contest .. she might just join you.

Maybe her trick is the nibble or two of fresh grass she gets.

Do you like to walk on a leash ? My other four cats don't so they can't go outside but Mere loves it and has her freedom anytime it's not too wet or cold. (the Mom won't go outside if it's under 50 and no sunshine)

  21. Those hairballs are really awful. I hope your Mommy gets the FURminator really soon and that you won't mind it. :)
My Mommy keeps the fur she furminates off us. Silly Mommy.
Thank you for helping out at the party last night. It was a huge success! And your niptinis were just the BEST.
    Love always, Your Boomie

  22. We hope the FURminator helps keep the fur out of your tummy Katie. Our mommy tries to sing the Meow Mix song too. If she only knew what she was REALLY saying!

  23. Hmmm.Hairball hell. We have it here with Leo and haven't found a solution yet except CLEANING :p
Carpet is better than furniture for scratching...Levon has started to scratch the leather couch!! We've never had that problem before...

Katie let's just face it (and your Mama too) you simply are an over achiever!! :)

  24. Does your mom realize that every time your food changes you will go thru this? Our Tuxie is very sensative. It was hell switching her from the old food to the new grain free but she is so much less itchy now and after a month or so, no more vomit bombs. ;)

  25. I used to get lots of hair balls too and they always made me feel under the weather until they came up. Mum Zoom Grooms me every day and furminates me twice a week. I also get Katalax on my paw to lick off and now I get very few hair balls.
    Eric
Pee-Ess Flynn likes to scratch on the carpet too.

  26. We have lots of scratchers here too, and we ALL use them... but Boodie STILL likes the carpet and Binga loves the dining room seats. How come I am the ONLY good kitty around here?

  27. Katie, Johnny here. You know I used to barf up impressively HUGE hairballs until I got shaved. Maybe a professional grooming might help get some of those extra furs off and get you ahead of the fur game. I haven't barfed once (except for being a piggy) since my shaggy coat went.
Mommy had been brushing us all like crazy--our winter coats are coming off by the bag full.

  28. I have a copy of the Meow Mix song by the Boston Pops. What puts it over the top is the Vienna Boys Choir performing a beautiful horking section in the middle. Just magic.

  29. You're a rebel for sure, Katie. TW puts up with my biting and attacking her because I NEVER scratch anything that isn't mine (and she is mine). NEVER. I'd be out the door if I did.

  31. Miss Katie
Maybe your Mom would like to stop those pretty colored claw covers for you? I bet you would look great in pink nails. That would help deter you from scratching.
WE are so sorry you are having problems with hairballs. WE hope things settle down for you and that your tummy feels better.

  32. Uh, we was thinking about Tiny Johnson and then we seed his Mommeh alreddy posted. The short stuff looks real nice on him, too. Have you seen how very touchable he looks? The Human just can't stop thinking about rubbing her grabby hands all OFUR him. Sigh.

Well, that *IS* kinda drastic. You shud prolly try the Furminator first. But you could get a warm-weather/shedding season haircut too.

You might look great all......nekkid. Oh my, is it hot in here?

I LOVE to claw the rugs too. I know it's wrong, I know I have all kinds of alternatives...but they're just so cushy and clawable!

  36. Katie, I know what you mean about clawing stuff. I like using my scratching post and my cardboard scratcher, but I still scratch the carpet. It makes my mom crazy!! Sorry about the hairballs. I hope you can get them under control.

  40. we are very sorry about the hairballs too, have you tried Petramalt?

Back when Cat Chat first started I did a post about scratching. There are a few things you can do.

    1) Cover the object(s) you do not want scratched with aluminum foil...cats HATE the feel of aluminum foil.

    2) when you see Katie doing this...go over and gently pick her up and bring her to a place/object that she is allowed to scratch and gently move her paws back and forth on it to show her and tell her what a good girl she is!

I did that with both of my boys and it worked!

  41. Wow, sooo many scratching surfaces (carpet included), sooo little time! MOL! Guess you showed your mommy what happens when she LEAVES, huh?

  42. Me is sorry me is late in blogging, me has been incarcerated! And me missed writing until Spitty lets us out!
Me thinks that scratching is purrfectly natural and me has distroyed so much furniture (and carpets) that Mommy has given up, but she is working very hard to train Kozmo not to.
    kisses
