Monday Meanderings

Well Kitties and woofies, I did play the harp for my brother last night.  Mom raised the blinds in the hopes that I would not give another performance but...I did.  She didn't raise them high enough.  That's both windows that the blinds have to be up now.  That makes it hard on brothers who sleep in there.  Mom said to tell you that both windows offer quite a view into our home when the lights are on.  Especially the window that I play the harp at.  THAT window shows the entire view from that bedroom, down the hall, into the living room so you'd better be dressed looking your best when that blind is up at night.  So just leaving it up is inconvenient for guests and affords a peep show otherwise.  That's why mom wishes I would leave it alone.

That chicken I told you about yesterday for  last night's supper was superb!  Just sayin'.  Boomie-- I saved you the part without the tomato.

Mom wants me to ask you kitties only if you do this:  I stand on my back legs at any given window OR in the bathtub and "scrub" furiously fast with my front paws.  Just as though I were in high gear trying to climb up and of course on a slick surface I can't.  Does anyone else do this?  Do you know why you do it?
Mom would love to have some ideas and she wishes I wouldn't do that.

Me and my human brother sat on the floor at the front door storm door with the afternoon sun shining in warmly and we watched the TV shows on..there was a special showing of Bird and Squirrel at the same time so we didn't want to miss that!

Mommy still says that I am still the absolutely sweetest most innocent little one she has ever seen.  Even the Admiral wasn't as consistently 100% of the time sweet as I seem to be.  Fanks you mama.  High praise, that.

  2. I don't do that 'scrubbing' thing personally... but my sister Tess does... ALL the time. I think there is someone else in my family who does too but can't... oh, got it! My Auntie Snowdrop. She does it whenever she wants in at the window and the peeps have forgotten to leave it open. The peeps have given up trying to stop them so I haven't got any hints for your mommy. Sorry.

  3. Annie used to stand on her hind legs and scratch at the patio door when she wanted out and in, or even at the front door (she went out on a harness for a short time and keeping her in after that was a challenge).

As for the blinds, tell Carole to take 'em down and put up vinyl or cloth roller blinds. Or look for curtains on sale that can cut the light. :-)

  6. Katie, I do that when I want the sash raised so I can sit in the windowsill with just the screen there.

  7. YES YES YES! I do that in the bathtub! TW says I look like a hamster spinning that wheel they have in their cage. She doesn't know why I do it but I can do it for the longest time. Sometimes I'm so into it, I'm in another world. She thinks I'm trying to get the soap scum off. As if!

  8. Dat is high praise. We do the window banging thing sometimes too - mom thinks maybe we see something she doesn't. But we aren't telling.... Good luck with the blinds - mom finally changed the ones in her bedroom to something called a roman shade - no banging, but we can move it out of the way to make sure the morning sun hits her right in the face. Thank you for the chicken with no tomato. I loved it. And Mommy loved the roasted potato too.

  14. I wondered who was playing the window harp! My sister Sascha does the scrubby climbing too but since someone stole her front claws (before she came herer) she never gets very far!

  16. I think it was really good that you played the harp for your brother too :)
The only time I scrub furiously with my paws is when my ball is under the sofa and I can´t reach it.

  17. Elliott & Ollie both do this on the back slider door to tell me they want out. Ms. Stella has taken to doing it to now, rather than sitting politely until I notice her.

I spend the days (when we are home and they are allowed outside) being the door monitor!

  18. The cat before me used to paw at the window a lot, but that's because she wanted to go outside, which she was allowed to do (actually she was not allowed so much as she demanded it and my human had no choice). Katie, you just sound like you are rambunctious!

  19. I do that scratching on the window too. I stand up on my back legs and scratch, scratch, scratch. I usually do it at night and mum wakes up when she hears my claws scraping at 19 to the dozen, squeak, squeak, squeak. Daisy the curly cat does it too. She calls it machine paw.

  25. Ernie does that "scrubbin'" stuff, Katie. 'Specially on doors. He thinks he wants to go out...or down the basement...or in the closet. He's pretty strange. We haven't figured out how to get him to stop other than open the door.

  27. Katie, we can tell that you are a really special kitty.
As to answer the question about the scratching of the windows or the tub, you will not believe what we do. In the hall where our litter box is, we have dug holes in the wall and scratched the wall paper off in many many spots. Mom is beside herself. She is going to look for some more scratching posts and maybe that is what you need Katie. Have a great evening.

  28. Star gets in that scrubby zone, she gets so into it that I think she loses all track of time. The funny thing is, she does it while sitting outside the litter box. Downstairs it's either the wall or worse... the dryer.. Ever hear claws on a dryer? Think chalkboards... but squeakier. Upstairs, we got around that by using a storage tub for a litter box, but she scratches up the walls of that.
Leo's been known to do that on a window, but not for long and usually because he wants the squirrel on the other side, MOL.
How wonderful that you played the harp for your brother! I bet he loved it!
I wonder what you could play if your mom changed those to virtical blinds? Probably quieter anyway?

  29. Our Chica does the scrubbinb thing when she wants attention or mom to get up or to be fed...whenever she wants something. When Mom found her she was doing that on the front glass of a store in a FL strip mall.

  30. I didn't know you were so musically inclined, sweet Katie! Sounds like you enjoy sunpuddling, too!

On the paws question, I don't know why cats do that. Tinker does it all the time on the wicker clothes hamper. I like strumming my claws on the kitchen cabinets (ones along the floor), but Mom Julie says I don't do any damage, so it's okay.

  31. OMC! OMC!! Cody does the SAME THING!!

he does it in my office on the vertical blinds...he goes to town on them...and he does it to our glass patio door windows. At first I thought there was a bug there but when i looked closer there wasn't. I feel better, I thought he did it cause he is NUTS! lol

  32. *I* do not do the paw-pedaling deal, but the Human has hadded kittehs before who did. It's our secret, darling, those stoopy Humans just think that we will tell them EVERYTHING about ourselves. As if! Don't they know they love us because we are mysterious???

And hey--What's with all this Boomie this and Boomie that??

  33. Finny loves to paw her music. We call it That Racket.

    ReplyDelete
  34. he he - Katie you do the most amazing things -- Playing music on the blinds, trying to wear through the glass on the windows. M said she has never had a kitty to either one of those things. Maybe you are trying to tell her the windows would look better - you know - more fashionable without blinds on them. Yup - that's what you are telling her.

  35. Katie, we bet your brother loved hearing you play the harp for him! It was nice of him to watch TV with you too! We don't do the paw thing so we don't know about that. Our mommy thinks you do sound like a very sweet kitty. She always has a smile on her face when we visit you!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Katie you sound very gifted indeed! You are showing your new Mama all your talents :)
Is it possible to simply close the spare bedroom door when guests are using it to keep Katie out and away fron the blinds?

the critters in The Cottage xo
P.S. Esme does the crazy paw thing on picture frames that are hanging on the wall! We think she does it for "negative attention" because she always gets a reaction!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like to watch the boidees, too. They hop around and chirp. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep, one of the cats likes to see just how fast he can scratch the floor in the dining room. When he gets bored with that, he leaps up on his hind legs leaping and dancing around the room. I think the scratching is a warm up for him to get ready to dance!

And playing the harp...I thought that's what those blind things were for.

    ReplyDelete
  39. We love your pillow. From Auntie Bin, right?

Guido scrubs too sometimes; we thought it's because he's a bit of a fur brain but we realise he only does it against a smooth surface like a window or marble floor corner. We think it feels good on the toesies.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Katie, it sounds like you had a very nice time with your brother! Our Angel Maggie used to do the scrubbing thing, too ... we never figured it out, but it always made us smile. :)

    Hugs to you and Mommy!

  41. ...standing up and scrubbing the bath tub? YES, our Mr Darcy does that! He can go at it for ages! We think it is attention seeking, but unsure because perhaps he does it when Mrs H is out too? Love Helen, Darcy and Bingley xxx

  42. Gracie & Millie do not have a blog, so I will have to answer for them. Gracie is especially fond of playing the "harp" on the corner of the clothes hamper in the bedroom. Yes, the clothes hamper. I'm glad we don't have to leave the blinds up at night. We don't want to scare people. :-)
